Wastewater Treatment plant tours
Get to know SAM’s Wastewater Treatment Plant!
Have you ever wondered what happens after flushing a
toilet or washing dishes in a sink – where does all that dirty water from
bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens go?
SAM offers free tours, both virtual and in-person, to
learn how wastewater treatment protects public health and our environment.

1. Online Virtual Tour
A virtual tour, in the form of a StoryMap, is SAM’s newest online educational resource. The tour features a variety of engaging videos and interactive maps to help audiences of all levels learn about SAM’s Wastewater Treatment Plant: Online Virtual Video.
2. In-Person Tour Join us to get a firsthand look at what it takes to remove waste and pollutants from millions of gallons of wastewater each day. The in-person tour is led by a SAM staff member at the Wastewater Treatment Plant and lasts approximately on hour. Tour Attendees must be 10 years of older, and children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Closed toe shoes are required.
Regular tours are held every third Wednesday of the month at 11am. However, individual tours may also be accommodated. For more information of to request an individual tour, please call (650) 726-0124.
